International cooperation

Our main foreign partner is the Rauland Academy in Norway. Our years of cooperation have had a positive effect on curriculum development, and provided motivation for both students and teachers.

Led by the Rauland school, a network of schools in Scandinavia engaged in traditional handicraft was introduced, with the national textile representatives participating in its activities. The members of the network come, in addition to Norway and Estonia, also from Denmark and the Faeroe Islands

In addition to official partner schools, we have relations on personal level with several schools teaching folk art of different levels in Latvia, Finland and Iceland. In 2003, two teachers participated in a course of methods for teaching the visually impaired that took place in Kanganpää, Finland within the framework of the Leonardo project. As a result, the course of methods based on the touch-and-read theme was included in the curriculum in the academic year of 2003/2004.

Norwegian Union of National Culture initiated a two-year Leonardo project which aims at developing and launching introductory courses of international traditional handicraft technology. The project participants come from handicraft schools in Norway, England, Wales, Spain, Bulgaria, Turkey. At the end of the project a framework is created which supports the students wishing to obtain international academic experience in finding a suitable school or apprenticeship offer. Most of the courses will be added academic e-support system the development of which is coordinated by the representative of Gorseinon College in Wales.

It is through Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union that we are members of the Folk Art and Craft Union of Nordic Countries and of the European Handicraft Federation (est.1972) that has 12 members now: Austria, Norway, Estonia, Slovakia, Finland, Spain, Hungary, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Sardinia and Denmark. The school receives information on the events and courses, our lecturers have participated in international seminars, conferences and camps.
